Elevating Your Outlook on Life
I sincerely wish for all my readers to become successful at work, but that doesn’t mean that I’m suggesting either that they simply be competent at what they do or that they become workaholics. We cannot measure our success only by our level of usefulness. No matter how capable we are, success can be far from our reach if we are disliked as a person or if others feel uncomfortable being around us and feel a sense of relief when we leave the office.
Work is a place where we can accumulate life experience, and so it is also a place where we can share spiritual Truths with others. We human beings are always influencing one another through our daily conversations and interactions. The words we speak have the power to lead others. That’s why it is crucial that we study people to learn from their life philosophies, instead of just trying to learn skills and knowledge specific to our job. And while it’s wonderful to learn from people who are more capable than we are, we can also learn from those who are not as competent as we are. We can learn from their strengths and even from their mistakes by examining why they made such mistakes.
Our work environment gives us an opportunity to meet and work with an incredibly diverse range of people that we can learn from. Knowing different types of people and their unique characters can help us in many ways. We should particularly focus on learning the basic thinking and behavioral patterns of different people. By deepening our understanding of different ways of thinking, we can accumulate knowledge and turn it into experiences. There is no limit to the depth of knowledge we can acquire. As we deepen the level of our understanding, we will be able to improve ourselves as human beings.
We should not be content just to do our job right. I believe it is just as, if not more, important to grow spiritually and develop a broader perspective on life through our daily work.
